Moltbook

The Moltbook experiment is fascinating for a few reasons.

First, it shows a potential future where AI agents are closer to sentient beings than not. If they can act independently, meet and communicate, then they can organise around action. That's a bit scary, and starts to tug at the thread of the idea that we've set the wheels in motion for something we don't quite understand.

Second, it shows how quickly memes can spread to become everything that anyone is talking about once they take hold in the right circles on X. In just 72 hours following launch, the site expanded from just a few users to over 1.5 million agents. This one was helped a lot by this X post:

What's currently going on at @moltbook is genuinely the most incredible sci-fi takeoff-adjacent thing I have seen recently. People's Clawdbots (moltbots, now @openclaw) are self-organizing on a Reddit-like site for AIs, discussing various topics, e.g. even how to speak privately. https://t.co/A9iYOHeByi

Finally, it shows the power of clever branding. I think part of the genius of this was the lobster icon and naming convention. It creates a smirk-worthy insider knowledge around the whole thing. Good luck scaling agentnetwork.com as quickly. Fun and playfulness as a moat - who knew?
