New Supply

Marketplaces have been around since the dawn of civilisation.

There’s a clear efficiency gain from bringing together buyers and sellers into a single place to trade. Supply and demand get matched, prices get discovered, and the world at large benefits from a broader set of products and services.

Internet marketplaces took this a step further, removing the geographical constraint of needing a physical location, and instead moving the trading venue to the clouds. Removing the constraint drove all the benefits higher still, and things moved further forward.

The final step in the evolution is the agentic marketplace. Here, the demand and supply need not even be aware of the marketplace ex ante. Agents with something to buy or sell could proactively prospect sources of supply and demand elsewhere on the internet.

The tradable pool of assets becomes anything visible anywhere online. The venue itself plays a diminishing role. The world will open up still further.
