Side Projects
I tidied my Google Drive this weekend and was confronted by the graveyard of half-finished project ideas that I've started working on across the years.
I consider it a strength to have an exploratory mind and to have ideas, but my goodness I must have wasted hundreds and hundreds of hours on ideas I never put into practice.
I’d love to know if anyone who has been successful at something went through the same process of building splinters of 1,000 things before finding “the one” that stuck. I certainly hope so.
Maybe one day I’ll go back to them and finish some of them. But the fact I gave up on them and stopped making progress probably suggests I shouldn’t. To do anything well requires a commitment and relentlessness that needs to be fuelled by a deep sense of ‘Why?’
Giving up, by definition, means the ‘Why?’ either isn’t strong enough, isn’t clear enough, or both. Maybe best to start there.
