Vin Mariani
I'm listening to the Acquired podcast on Coca-Cola and it's absolutely brilliant.
I think my favourite fact so far is that Coca-Cola was originally a derivative of a Bordelaise drink called Vin Mariani, a blend of red wine and coca leaves (yes, the plant from which cocaine is made) that was popular amongst the great and the good in the late 1800s, including more than one Pope!
If that doesn't show the importance of pivoting over time, even for a soft drink company, I'm not sure what does.
